It seems as though no one admits to being a liberal.

I think it's because that is what they 'wish' they were. INDEPENDENT. It's easier said than done?

Liberals claim to be independent because of the right-wing media's practice of claiming that "liberal" is a four-letter word. Instantly when anyone is deemed a liberal they are lambasted as if being a liberal is a bad thing.

Liberals believe that what they stand for is more on-the-ball than what conservatives stand for. Why? Because history has shown that liberalism and liberal ideas turn out to be right in the long run. For example, the Constitution, the liberation of slaves, the Progressive reforms of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the New Deal, women's rights, and civil rights have all been the product of liberal ideology.

Now I admit, I am a liberal so my answer is a bit biased here. It's frustrating to me when members of my own party and wing of politics shy from the liberal badge. In short, I think it's because liberals are scared of coming out and proclaiming what they stand for because they're afraid that the other side will get it wrong. So they claim that they are independents so they don't seem so far out of the mainstream. It's actually my belief that most people that consider themselves independents are in fact liberals, but that's up for debate.

Beats me I have never meet a liberal in my life that claimed to be Independent.

Or an Independent that was liberal.

I suppose you're not paying close attention here, are you.? There are many, many regulars here who proudly proclaim they are Liberal. Just as there are many who proclaim to being Conservative. Moderates usually do the same thing.

The only REAL dishonesty seems to come from stereotyping posters. Stereotyping IS lying.

So I'll admit to being mostly liberal, but I don't walk in lockstep to any idealogy. So that makes you wrong on two counts. Will you admit it?
