if you're a teacher it's not your job to entertain the kids. your job is to TEACH them.
however, if you want to relate to them and develop a positive relationship with your students find out what they are interested in. music, movies, tv shows, internet sites. learn their lingo. talk intelligently about these subjects. if you don't understand something ask the kids to explain it to you. when they find you are taking an active interest in their lives they will take an active interest in your class.

Please don't. Kids get the wrong impression and expect to be entertained in class. We need to motivate them to do well and you do this by using competition and incentive. That is the real world. You can still have fun while teaching and they will have fun learning. If jokes don't come easy to you, the kids will know that you were rehearsing and that will backfire. A good teacher will build a good rapport with the kids, but will let them know that they are the teacher and that the student's job is to be respectful, inquisitive, and willing to learn. Everything else will fall into place. Come up with some good hands on lessons and you will be fine.

Personally, I don't think you can teach yourself jokes to use. It has to come from within your own personality. I've used a play on a word for example to get a chuckle out of them. Other times, there was a funny experience I ran into outside of class that I'll briefly tell them about.
I've also brought in news articles that have some humor, but also have some relevance to class. Perfect example, there was an ad for a clock. The description was all about the clock, but the picture was of a thermometer. Used it to show how important accuracy and attention to detail is.

You will entertain them just as well by singing and dancing when the urge hits. I listen to talk radio before school and pick up their joke of the day. I find them on line at subject-specific web sites. I cut out cartoons from the paper, enlarge them, and post them on my board. Usually I just try to keep smiling and laughing. The cornier your jokes the better!
