I have come to the realization that i just have poor skin for tattooing... no matter how closesly i follow the guidelines, i end up with pretty thick scabs and usually some touch up that is needed. I am very fair skinned and also have sensitive skin, so im thinking its not that im doing something wrong, just my body. Its frustrating not having it come out perfect and having to explain to the artist that you swear you were following his guidelines. I just got another portion of my full sleeve done, and again its a rather thick scab over most of the work, and there are some cracks in the scabs... My question is, now that i have already hit the point with scabs, should i continue to moisturize or just let it go completely dry and leave it alone? i dont want it to crack so bad, and maybe if i handle the situation right from now on out, it might come out okay, but i also heard moisturizing scabs can prevent them from healing and cause more problems..

Last tattoo I got the girl told me to use hemeroid (sp) cream. If that's any help. However I think the touching up is inevitable.

There is really nothing you can do to make your tattoo heal 'faster'. Treat it as a flesh wound... thats really what it is! The ONLY time your tattoo should be covered is right after it is done- your tattoo artist will place some sort of bandage over it. That bandage can be taken off in 1-4 hours. After that, you do not bandage it again. Keep a thin layer of A and D ointment or Bacitracin on it for a few days... DO NOT use a grease based ointment like Vaseline!! NO Neosporin!! Just the A & D or Bacitracin. H2Ocean is also a wonderful after care lotion, made especially for your healing tattoo. But NO bandages!!!! Dont rush this healing process. You can mess up your tattoo and it wont look its best. Just be patient!

My husband didn't moisturize his first tattoo very well and it had to be touched up alot. His other two he moisturized very well and didn't touch the scabs or pick them ant they turned out very well. My tattoo on my back I would get my husband to moisturize every night and I barely scabed at all and it came out well. I think alot has to do with how your body heals. For sure you need to keep it clean and if possible out of clothes, air is good, sweaty dirty clothes is bad. Don't go swimming for sure and after it heals make sure to use sunscrean as the sun will fad your tatoos over time Good luck

Do NOT use neosporin... That will heal the tattoo and actually draw the color out.. Use some A&D ointment, you can buy it at walmart for like 4 bucks!!! Also put on the ointment and them take some saran wrap and cover it... To much air to a fresh tattoo will dry it out.. Keep doing this and it should heal fine... If it continues to crack, put baby oil on it 1st then a thich layer of the A&D... Keep it covered with the saran wrap for like a week... Good luck!!! :)

Neosporin will help in the healing process. You can use cocoa butter to lighten the scaring. The larger the design the longer it will take to heal and more scabbing.

You are supposed to be keeping it moisturized. Wash it with anitbacterial soap. Then put neosporin on it. That is what I did with both of mine and they came out fine. Don't let it dry and don't pick at the scab!

Ever heard that the 3 important points of buying real estate is Location, Location, Location?
Well, for tattooing, it's Lotion, Lotion, Lotion.
I have 9 tattoos, and each time I used Lubriderm unscented lotion at least 3 times/day, and never had any issues with them.

I never put anything on my tattoos past the first couple of days. My first tattoo was a disaster to heal, then I just stopped the whole moisturizing thing and the result??? perfectly heeled tattoos.

Don't pick the scabs. Use A&D ointment. Give your body time. Make sure you are drinking lots of water and eating protien(promotes wound healing).

I was alllll about the unscented Lubriderm. Try not to get it too wet in the shower, DO NOT pick at it, keep it moist but not crazy moist (3 times a day should be enough). Speak with your tattoo artist. They should be able to help you and provide aftercare advice.
