The US government cannot demand obedience from the people, the government is supposed to be "by the people, for the people" The first worlds of the Constitution are "We the People". We fought the revolution against the King of England who was demanding obedience. If you want to have a Kingdom or a dictatorship then the government would demand obedience. Then we would have a country like Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia or Saudi Arabia. The very idea is unamerican.

I personally feel that we need to stop bending the rules for some and sticking to the rules for others a no tolerance zone for everyone. I also feel we allow too many loop holes in the systems. I personally feel that all rights need to be automatically removed once you are convicted of a crime. You get the rights back when you start following the rules. This business of giving criminals a better life on the inside(jail) than they had on the outside is crazy. Some of these prisoners watch movies everyday. GO to college, work, and still see their families. For what reason do they have to reform? In order to have obedience you need to respect the authority over you. No respect no obedience. There is no respect for a government that is out of control. Get the control back and you will get the respect back and you will get the obedience back. It all works hand and hand.

I say it's the same way some parents 'demand obedience without question' Here's the thing though, just like over zealous parents, a government can't always enforce their 'demands' if you know what I mean. Just like our parents, they can try to control us and demand or forbid things of us but they are not able to. We are human beings who have the desire for free will. That is why (I believe) God gave us the right to choose instead of just demanding what he wanted. Some of us may choose the wrong thing, but we all have the choice one way or another. Do you agree?

Its a tradeoff... obedience and some freedoms at the expense of protection. The idea is, if you dont like it, go somewhere else, at least in the US. some countries dont let their people out but anyway thats the general idea

The country offers economic, political, and security benefits to the people who live there. In return, they want u to follow the rules.

Like any establishment, think sporting event. You buy a ticket and you are guarinteed a seat and security will enforce it if someone takes it from you and refuses to leave.

Or a public pool. you can use it(for a small fee, taxes in the case of a country) but you must abide by the rules or be forced to leave

They don't demand "obedience" so to speak, they do require that you follow the laws. I mean cmo'n what would this or any other country be like if there wasn't any type of law or order

By creating a fearful environment and convincing people that they don't know what best for themselves. This opens the door for a dictator-type to come in and "save" the government and the people. Because they are afraid, they'll give him more control and once he has a certain amount of power, there's no stopping him.

When all else fails, use brute force.

easy........

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

They can't yet, in America, but let them outlaw guns and they'll give it a good try.
Mostly, though, I'm with Saber: we let them.
Too many Americans vote reflexively, or according to the media hype, without due regard to the records and views of the people they elect.
As Heinlein said, among others, ignorance is the beginnning of slavery.

In no sense do I advocate evading or defying the law. . . . This would lead to anarchy. One who breaks an unjust law must do it openly, lovingly . . . and with a willingness to accept the penalty. I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail to arouse the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the very highest respect for law.
