If you were taking about bass guitarist, Geedy Lee of Rush would be my vote. He has won Best Male Bass Guitarist 4-5 times when Rush was producing albums in the 80's and 90's.

First I think Jimi Hendrix is overated. Yes, he was a great guitarist but certainly not the best. I think if I had to narrow it down it would be between Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Eric Johnson
