Concider what the views of the the Romen Empire.

Homosexuals would have been accpeted as part of mainstream life. It was concidered a normal and accped lifestyle which wasn't questioned till the begining of the three Major Aberham religions.

To this day, outside of the thee main, Homosexuality is acceped and treated with respect. SO any society which mainstream view was not based on the Big Three would have homosexuals as normal and open as anyone else.

Its a Aberhamic belief agenst homoxeuals, nothing more. But this belief has become so embedded in out culture, we accept it, even if we don't believe in it or accpet the mainstream teachings of the religions.

Absolutely, the pre-Christian Roman Empire was built on orgies, homosexuality, immorality, overindulgent behavior of all sorts. If you were ever really interested enough to take the time to do it you would find these answers in the Rise and Fall of The Roman Empire.

The Catholic Church teaches that homosexuals are human beings who are to be treated with dignity and respect -- even though their sexual behavior is declared to be morally illicit.

If the Roman Empire was still around, I doubt homosexuals would be treated any better or any worse than how they are treated now.

Who knows, the whole idea of "homosexual" is only a century old.

From what I've seen ... I might be wrong ... pre-Xtian Romans weren't that much more unfriendly than anyplace in the world. In most pagan cultures there wasn't a big problem. Hadrian, around 100 CE, was positively friendly.

As for pre-Xtian Rome's "overindulgence, immorality", most popular his-story was written by Xtians. Take with big grain of salt.

No because the Romans were very concerned with familiy and status. You could f*ck all the same sex members you wanted, but it was never to threaten the family. So it goes without saying almost that you couldn't have an open gay indentity in those times. You could have a loveless marriage for status and a live in gay lover, but you could not just marry said lover. You needed to have children to pass on the status and demonstrate your virility (as a male) and secure your care in old age (as a female), and without the modern knowledge of sex (remember that science didn't discover this whole sperm and egg thing until the 1800's) and modern technology, gay people couldn't have children of their own.

So paradoxically, while there was more acceptace of gay sex there was no acceptance of a gay identity or of gay families.

Homosexuality in the Roman Empire was different than we think of it today. Men had sex with other men to keep the women pure until they were married, not to have a real relationship with them.

Yes, homosexuality was acceptible in most pre-christian societies, it wasn't until the Catholic Church came along that homosexuals were made to hide.

Well both ancient Greece and Roman society condemned Anal sex yet accepted sexual intimacy between the same genders.
Both cultures had a common practice of raping their male enemies as a way to emasculate them.

Yes, I think so. When the major religion was Wiccan then there was not an issue with it (Wiccan's see love as love) but things began to change as Christian and Wiccan religions blended together. But that was only after the Bible was interpreted and the lang changed that any issues came up, and only with some people.
