In short, yes. Your computer's system memory (RAM) plays a large part in the performance of your PC. Before deciding to upgrade the ram (1GB is a sufficient amount for now), examine a few other aspects of your current computer. First, (I don't know how much you know about computers, but...) you will need to know what type of memory you have and if you have room on your motherboard to replace your memory.
If you currently have two slots, you will only be able to get 1GB if your current memory is a single stick of 512MB (if otherwise, you will have to completely replace both memory sticks of 2 x 256MB). If you have four slots on your motherboard for memory, once again check to see if you currently have one or two sticks of memory. If you have one 512MB stick, you only have to buy another one. If you have two 256MB sticks, I suggest you ditch those when you upgrade your memory.
Finally, you need to make sure the memory you replace your PC with has the right memory speed (BUS) as the memory you have now, or if you buy new memory make sure it is supported by your motherboard. Also, your memory may be an older version (DDR), and while you could replace with this, DDR2 costs less than this older version and I recommend you replace with this if your motherboard supports it AND if your current memory is DDR2. You can find all this information out by opening up your case and looking on the motherboard, but if you are not experienced with this DO NOT do this. Download a program called BelArc Advisor that will tell you all the hardware and software on your computer.
If this didn't completely answer your question, ask another one specifically staing your computer info from BelArc Advisor and I could easily tell you what to do to replace it and even offer places to go for the best deals.

Increasing the Ram is the easiest and cheapest way to increase your computer's speed with hardware.

Try this also (its free and really does make a difference)

Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.

Anytime you upgrade your RAM it will make it faster. RAM is random access memory so anytime you are running a program or game that is not saved on a hard drive it is running through RAM.

It will run fast and do like below too:

Right click on My computer>Properties>Advance>(c... 'Settings' of Performance)>Advance(beside of Visual Effects)>Change>(for entaring Initial Size (MB) & Maximum Size (MB) see below)

For entaring paging value in Initial & Maximum Size box, you have to put same value in these two box!

If you have 256 RAM the values are 384. This mean you have to put 384 & 384 in Initial & Maximum Size box!

If have 512 RAM, the values= 768.
(Just multiply your RAM x 1.5).

If you have 1GB RAM stick on 768!

Click on set and retsart!

Me and my freinds using this technic for last 1 year, we found it on PC WORLD, my PC never hang or freeze for last one year!

It depends on what you ae doing with the computer. If you are running progrsm requiring a great deal if memory , then this should speed up your processing time.

Technically it should.

Go to the website below to figure out what memory you need and how your computer's memory slots are setup before you buy.

(I recently went from 1GB to 2GB myself and saw a huge performance increase in my games!)

Of course...RAM will make you have faster access and it's good if you often do multi tasks...opening lots of programs at the same time...

Yup. If you had a lot of slowdown when working with more than one program open, you'll notice a substantial difference in speed.
