Usually this is an issue of perception. Before they get their foot in the door who cares what their personal life is like - but once they're famous the media can make money by dishing dirt on them.

Most likely they are who they are all along, it only becomes worthwhile to use their personal - human - life against them once they are famous. They are no different than you and I, they just pay the price of having people always digging through their lives looking for a story.

If they are in some way twisted, it was probably there long before the media found it

They realize that they are not the only celebs out there. It becomes a contest of who can go the furthest. They don't realize that in their effort to stand apart from their competition, they have lowered their standards of conduct, etc. Maybe they don't feel like they have anything else going for them but their sexulity, so they throw that around as a one-last-desparate-attempt to stay onn top in the public eye. No matter what, it always fails. Look at Paris Hilton.....

absolute power corrupts absolutely. Most can't help it. Being a celebrity is like stepping into a fairytale. You start believing what people say about you. There's nothing you can't have and nothing you can't do attitude.

It takes strong morals and strong family ties and love not to fall into that hole.

They get more attention that way. Nobody wants to read about good stuff, they want to hear about all the bad gossip celebs are involved in. They intentionally do it to get more attention and make themselves a bigger star! They're idiots!!

It's probably about image. A lot of them don't want a Mickey Mouse CLub image. Some actually think they are being sexy.

I don't think they turn trashy, I think they were already probably bad decision makers, and money, power, and greed just made their problems worse.
