You can take your car to any Advance Auto, they will do it for you at no charge, but, they may not be able to tell you what the codes are. But, if you have the codes, then an auto mechanic should know what they mean.
I took mine to Advance Auto-it took just a couple of minutes and it showed the codes. I then took it to my mechanic who saw the codes and told me what was wrong. I am glad a friend of mine told me about this-I went to one shop who wanted to charge me $200!!!!!

If your check engine light is on, you can borrow a OBD II code reader from most major chain auto part stores (pep boys, autozone, Kragen/checkers, etc). You just give them your license or credit card and they'll let you use it (usually just in the parking lot).

The code isn't always the only thing wrong with your car, it might be a sympton of something else wrong.
