Just my opinion, I would not get matching tattoos of any sorts. This is just asking to jinx the relationship and no matter what, if and when you go your own way, you will still forever be connected to him. Just the memory that you got them together, they were apart of each other, etc. I think it's a bad idea. Sadly, the couple's tattoo usually outlasts the couple. But if you are wanting to get one, I would do something small you could do a cover up if you chose to do so at some point. I would look into something similar but not exactly, and nothing that has to have a match like BFF necklaces or yin yangs do. Try to choose a symbol that you both like rather than simply inking names. This way, if things don’t pan out the way you thought they would, you will always have that symbol with you as a reminder of that time in your life, but you won’t have to worry about the embarrassment or expense involved with removing a name. Pick a saying or quote that defines what is unique to your partnership Pick animal tattoos that express the nature of your romance — a butterfly, a phoenix tattoo, a lovebird or any other animal that has special significance to the two of you. If you simply must use formal birthnames, consider inking them in another language, such as Japanese, Hindu or Hebrew. Consider creating your own design. A tribal angel holding a heart, a traditional pinup girl and matching soldier, or some other form of “his and hers” tattoos

Please, don't get a tattoo. Tattoos are just a fad now. When a person first gets a tattoo they look crisp and clean; then years later the colors fade and blend together and they look terrible. I believe you will be sorry that you had it imprinted into your skin. Take some time and think this over before it is too late.

You'd really do better to go to the Tattoo Shop and ask the artists there to draw you one up. Most of them are veyr good artists in their own right and can create a unique one-of-a-kind item just for you.
