IT IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION. Im sure we'd all like to know the answer. I dont know the answer, but I do think a good place to start would be for the US to withdraw from Saudi. This is Islams holy land and is friendly to the west, why do the yanks have to be there, it only pisses them off?
2nd the two state system for Israel and Palinstein... any takers, Christ knows that would solve some problems, if both parties would agree to respect each others soveignty, then there would be no need for continual tit for tat terror.
Basically, if we sat down and actually asked what was pissing the islam world off so much, maybe we could find a way to accomodate them.
Of course, as we all know, this wont work cos chances are , they are all a bunch of psychotic dune jockeys, with chips on their shoulder the size of the republic of ireland, so as your previous correspondant pointed out, lets nuke them all and turn the place into one giant car park, once the UK has nicked all the oil, given it to the Scots to manage.
There are times I wonder why I havent been voted World President!

As long as there is oil in the Middle East and no political opposition to the Western Industrial mafia that exploits it here at home then I'm afraid the whole rotten mess will continue. The illegally established state of Israel is like a festering boil in the region, acting as Americas policeman and along with the other puppet regimes like the Saudis ensures that the rights of the Palestinians will never be secured.
The fate of the Palestinians, dispossesed and made second class citizens in their own land is one of the greatest tragedies to befall any people in modern or even ancient times. The best we can do is support their rights to their land and freedom, but this is never addressed by the media at home. Instead we are presented with what appears to be some kind of unintelligible conflict - where both sides are equally to blame. If you critiscise Israel you lay yourself open to charges of being anti - semitic. This is plain nonsense - there is no reason why Jews and Palestinians cannot live together equally in the land that used to be known as Palestine without it being a specifically Jewish state. Except ofcourse that the founders of that state took it by force of arms and brutally side-lined the people that had lived peacefully there for generations to the arid fringes of their own land and to the margins of society.

If the United States didn't fund and arm Israel so heavily, Israel may be more open to peace talks becuase they wouldnt be unproportionatly strong. When this funding stops, Israel would be brought down to a level where they would talk to others and negotiate. This might end the war, or at least bring it to a long cease fire.
Another way would be if The United Stats topped vetoeing any proposal in the UN that would limit Israel's attacks and call for cease fire. The US is the only cuntry standing in the way.

Probably nothing. All Israel can do are these punitive strikes to try to dissuade the arabs from attacking their peaceful villages and towns with rockets and mortars, etc. There are arab elements that are not interested in peace. Their goal is the destruction of Israel as a nation and as a people. But what would they do with the land of Israel if they had it? The answer is neglect it until in returns to a desert wasteland.
But Israel is not going anywhere. God won't allow Israel to be destroyed. So all the arab terrorists are accomplishing in getting more arabs killed.
Israel should go after the real enemy of the Jewish State, Syria. Stop focusing only on Hezbollah and Hamas and go after the rogue state that supplies and supports them.

We need to seriously rethink our wrongful foreign policy. First of all, all foreign aid to countries in this region should be contingent on meeting very specific goals towards peace and the establishment of Palestinian independence. Second, some commerce, which is in effect a form or foreign aid should fall under the same restrictions. Next, we need to fast track an international coalition (G8?) to work on establishing peace talks on an ongoing basis. Probably Iran already has nuclear weapons, and they are manipulating everyone else now. It's time to take a look at that. Putin speaks out of both sides of his mouth. We need the help and cooperation of the world community, and not to stand arrogantly and effectively alone in our policy. Also, it's time to really start working on getting the heck out of Iraq, by a definite deadline. There is no upside to Iraq.

I have often pondered this very question from time to time. I think because of the severity the only way to have sustained peace is to find a common enemy or common cause that is greater than their differences and that would force them to unite as one. Anything short of an alien invasion or proving that GOD does not exist will probably fail. I am afraid that tradition methods of education and thrid party negotiations will not work. Unfortuanatley, they will probably end up killing each other. It is very sad.

We'll never stop it, but if we stop sending money and weapons to both sides, then all they'll have to throw at each other is rocks...damned hard to kill millions with a handful of rocks! It is a family feud going back to which of Abraham's sons you believe you came from, Ishmail or Issac... if both sides lose enough of their OWN sons fighting this stupid war, then maybe they'll forget the past and live in peace!

Get in touch with your local peace group and campaign for peace. Peace makes sense, really, doesn't it? You'll love it. You seem genuinely motivated and you'll probably make some great, warm-hearted friends.
Tomorrow 5.30 pm Queen Victoria Square, Hull, UK. Protest against the Israeli attacks on Lebanese and Palestinian civilians.

It will stop when we ask ourselves ...'who is it I hate?'
Is it the Muslems? or is it the small group of Muslems who want to harm the Israelis?
Is it the Jews? or is it the minority who want to steal land from their neighbours.
I am sure most people on either side just want to get married and have kids and are quite happy not to get involved in all that trouble.
