We have an air to air (i.e. not ground source) heat pump with additional heating coils. I have replaced the filter and reset the thermostat. The fan works but the unit will only pump our hot air. Any suggestions on which part might be affected?

Some heat pumps have a baffle that switches the heat from winter use and to the cooler side for summer. If your unit has such a baffle, make sure it is switching over. In theory heat pumps are supposed to work great, but in practice they have limits, especially with extreme temperatures.

it's harder for an air-to-air heat pump to work in the hot conditions like the country is facing. it's working, but it's not being that efficient because of the smaller temperature difference between what's coming out of the compressor and the outside temperature.

sounds like ur reversing valve like i stated in a question before....also remember that a heat pump can only cool it down 12 to 14 deg cooler than what it is outside. also, have ur coils cleaned every 2 yrs....dust on the coils will reduce the cool air by 50%......and have the freon checked...

Could it be the unit has frost inside? We have this problem with ours, and have to actually shut it off and defrost it from the inside, then we can turn it back on again
