I'm American, not English. Idk where you come from, but if it's not America, forgive us. A lot of americans are:
Self-centered (so they think that any reference must mean us)
stupid
nosy (even if they know what is meant, they want to comment). . .
Not trying to offend any Americans (yeah, I am one, duh!). . .Just saying that we're not always the brightest bunch in the world (look at our leader)

I don't. When someone refers to someone being English I think of UK or somewhere over there. As far as English hating France it's because a lot of Americans do not like French so that's where that mix up could come from. As far as very little English descendancy we escaped the general European area strictly for religious freedom, so ummm, you were wayyyyyyy off on that one bud!

No, I think the terms American refers to us.. but when I hear 'the English' I assume they are talking about..well.. the English.
Good try putting us all into one group though. Kinda like, you know, all English people have bad teeth..

I claim England as my homeland. OK, so it was 3 brothers who came to Jamestown in the 1600's, but I'm still an Anglophile. And besides, I don't think the French are very popular anywhere.

I think you must have noticed that Americans are good at butting in just about everywhere. And they say they speak English, and their geography is a bit skimpy, so they think it means them anyway.
