Love is an emotion, an higher and intense emotion like joy, that is felt by an individual. This emotion can affect your behavior and is usually directed towards another individual. You can love you child, mom, dad, partner, animals, Earth, etc....

Friendship on the other hand is a (a type of relationship) bond between two people that can have love or something less. There is usually a higher level of trust than compared to other types or relationship but not as high as a marriage.

I believe love is deep affection and warm feelings for another. I have felt it fewer times than friendship.
Friendship is between people I know, like and trust.
The most peculiar of the two relationships for me has turned out to be friendship. I found true friendship, which I've experienced, being a deaper and more fullfilling relationship than love, or, perhaps they blend together because I feel them both at the same time only with my good friends.

At it's most basic, love [romantic or friendly] is the desire or ability to put the friend/lover's needs or wants ahead of your own willingly. It could be as simple as, "I want to go to McDonald's." That can be love.
