Lebanon harboured the terrorist group Hizbolah, which kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers on Israeli ground. Israel demanded the return of their soldiers, and they did not get it. So the made the first move with regard to bombing. However, Hizbolah instigated the current campaign.

al jazeera recently did a poll on this & it's rather interesting seeing as how it's got a distinctively arab slant. many in the arab world apparently blame Hezbollah, Iran or Syria (though of course most blame Israel, as to be expected)

Unfortunately, the problem started over a thousand years ago; however, the not original problem but the one that is remembered by Islam is the Crusades back in the middle ages by Christians against Muslims. It is a fact and a disgrace that Muslim's will never forget.

Good grief. It depends on who you ask. They each blame the other for starting it. It goes back almost 2000 years. Not sure anyone really knows any more.
