I am 13 and he is 15. I am scared of my brother.

He is a lot stronger than I am. He hurts me and beats me. He says harsh words to me and talks about killing me. He once tried to suffocate me and has several times tried to choke me. I am afraid of being in a swimming pool with him because he tries to drown me. And it continues to get worse.

He can be a really good person sometimes, but...I guess he's just selfish and doesn't know how much he's really hurting me. How can I get him to stop? I tell my parents about it and they get angry at me, too.

If you parents won't help you then you need to turn elsewhere for help. You deserve better. Talk to your school counselor. If that doesn't help talk to the local Child Protective Services. I know that sounds harsh but you have to protect yourself the best you can.

Your brother needs help and so do you.

Please go to school and tell someone, An adult teacher, etc that you trust and feel comfortable talking to. If you are that afraid the next time he does something pick up the phone and call 911. They will definitely help, and they will definitely make sure your parents are aware. Good luck, and remember you are someone, and NOBODY should be putting there hands on you in any unwanted way, That includes your parents, and they should not be yelling at you for something of this nature.

You need to tell someone else. Tell as many people as you can until someone listens. If you feel threatened, maybe you should call Child Services, especially since your parents are not listening. Your brother is abusing you and your parents are neglecting you. In the meantime, try to stay as far away from your brother as you can.

If your parents are getting angry with you when you tell them your brother is abusing you that is not good. Try to find someone else to talk to about this. You could try talking to a counselor at school about it. There are also many anonymous hot-lines out there. Try looking one up on-line. These people can give you advice on what to do and how to talk to your parents about it. I do think that you need to sit down with your parents again, when your brother isn't around, and try talking to them. Don't just tell them that your brother is picking on you. Tell them that you are extremely scared to be alone with him. If they still don't want to hear it tell them that you want to go talk to someone else about it.

Go to another adult - a priest, counselor at school - a relative. You ARE being abused and if your parents won't help, then you need to find someone who will. You should not have to be afraid at home!
Good luck!
