He was a man with deep religious convictions.
He sided with the little guy - the central and western farmers of the 1890s.
He could whip a crowd into a frenzy with his passionate speechmaking.

Three reasons? No, just one. He was standing up for the little guy while the Republicans (then as well as now) were all about protecting the wealthy. Even if you consider him a demagogue, in a country with regular elections four years of someone like that is always better than four more years of constipated conservatism.

He was a total jackass at the Scopes Trial (even though that happened after he ran)

I would not.

1. He was from way before I was even born.
2. He is known for being the American presidency's biggest loser.
3. I don't agree with his political views.
