While cracker is meant as an insult towards white people it by no means carries the weight, history and stigma of ni**er. So, while I'd be insulted if someone called me a cracker, in a derogatory manner, I'd be ticked. However, cracker doesn't "mean" anything inherently speaking.

Ignorant white slave owners used the word ni**er to refer to humans whom they viewed as inferior; over time, other discriminatory practices have revealed themselves whilst the word ni**er was in the back of racist people's minds. Ni**er is the verbal manifestation of a mental state that is is backed up by years of hatred violence - and is really a very negative attribute of our "advanced" society. The mistakes white people in the past is still haunting everyone across races today - it is very likely that a current lawsuit will succeed in gaining reparations. Great - I got screwed twice: I didn't have slaves (my family wasn't in the U.S yet) and I didn't kill and Jews (and yet my family's tax dollars has pair reparations for the mistakes of an isolated group). Can't win

Well, there already is a "c-word". However, you appear to be making a correlation between "cracker" and what is refered to as "the n-word". But the history of the N-word is associated with oppression, violence and killing against the group that word was applied to. While we certainly aren't seeing that sort of injustice as we did before, the psychological association is still there, and thus the social frowning on using the full N-word. There is really no such history associated with "cracker".

Because of the obvious double standard that exists today. To me an insult is an insult. I never use the N word and I mean never because it's an insult to black people. And they had better never insult me to my face by referring to me as a cracker either because that too is an insult and racist.

Because the term would go over thier heads and would not have the effect of insulting a cracker.

Because blacks are to stupid to come up with something that really offends white people. Who cares if someone calls us cracker. Means nothing. No history to the word like *****er has.
