I found an OLD "United States Army" Sterling Silver ring in the ground in my front yard. Apperently before i got the property, they used this specific spot for burning. The Ring has some burned build up on it. i used a small sknife and when i scraped carefully, the silver showed. Is there a way to clean this without scraping? i tried "Mr. Metel" but only cleaned very few places. anything like an acid or something?

Water... the universal solvent and a toothbrush. Cleaning takes T.A.C.T. - Temperature, Agitation, Chemical, Time.

You can reduce any one of those by increasing the others, but if you increase the strength of any of the four you can also reduce the others. I recommend increasing Temp first then Time and be careful of how strong a Chemical you use as well as what you are agitating with... you said you are using a small knife to scrape.... dont do that... use nylon bristled brushes.

How about Coke? Let it sit in coke for a few days....If it can clean toilet stains and remove rust from old nails, maybe it will remove the residue from your ring.

Why don't you call a local jeweler & ask if it can be cleaned?
