Hi there, I am confused.

- Is one an adult at 18?
- If you are buying train tickets, ages 12 and above are considered an adult. Why's that? (Parents still have to accompany them anyway!)
- So whats 18 then? Just the right to vote?
- And alcohol comes in at 21.
- (And I know that there are other things like driving, being drafted etc.)
- So when is one an adult? and at what age?
- Why do some departments consider different groups as adults?

Any idea? Thanks!!

great question where im from you are considered an adult at the age of 18 you can drive, buy cigerettes, get your own housing, take yourself out of high school,etc...some depts. consider different groups as adults because of the maturity level...some 18-25 years old still havent matured to the level that they should be on they are still in the partying and doing whatever they want stage of life and to many that is considered being a young adult....but if you matured at an early age and can handle certain situations at your age then you are considered an adult.....hope this helped thank you for such a great question

I'm not sure, I wondered about that too. The world considers you an adult when you're 18 but legally. Train companies, theme parks, etc. are just trying to make extra money. They figure you're mature enough and should be out of school to understand voting. Most 18 year old's drink and drive and put their lives in danger. So I think you're an adult once you don't have to depend on your parents or really anyone else to take care of you.

All these things might consider you an adult. I'm almost 26 and sometimes I don't feel like an adult. I think it depends on what you have gone through in your life, your maturity level. I really don't think you are an adult until you have lived on your own and can support yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.

18 or 21 depending upon the state and local laws. 21 to drink though.
