One evacuee from Beirut today complained that Bush didn't act fast enough to get Americans out of Lebanon. The State Dept. releases reports on places around the world everyday warning Americans what areas are experiencing hostilities or might potentially be dangerous. If you go to one of these places shouldn't you find out first how dangerous it could potentially be? Isn't it your responsibility once you're there to have a plan for escape? Don't look to Bush to get you out- consult the local embassy. Is it me or are these people a bunch o' whiners?

I agree Jasenlee...we should still get them out. I'm not heartless like others here seem to have implied.

Karen S - I never said to stop going there. Terrorists be damned. I realise that people do business over there or have family. I'm just saying you should take your own precautions and not rely on the government to get you out if they didn't send you. And while I think we SHOULD get them out if they can't get themselves out- they should not complain about the conditions as they're being rescued. Geez- what a bunch of whimps!

Well, I was thinking about this earlier too, after hearing about the complaints.
I think government people, of course should be gotten out and the government pay for it. That's expected.
Anyone else, well, if they are there for business, their company should pay for it. Send 'em a bill.
If they have family there and don't have money to get out, now, that just doesn't make sense. Would you go visit family without having a way home?
Not normally. I would say the government should send them a bill.
Let's face it, we all know the middle east isn't Disneyland, and most people aren't going to go there for a family reunion BBQ.
And when I visit my family in California, I always have an escape plan.
(You gotta know my family to appreciate that :oD)
(Maybe the government would get me outa there? ROFL)
As far as how fast they were gotten out? Well, I think those we pay to be there for government purposes, earn the right to be first in line. Or women and children.
I'm sure it probably ~ felt ~ longer than it really was.
I'm sure the government acted as fast as they could.
(At least faster than you get your tax refund.)
Seriously, I think they would try to do their best. For starters they wouldn't want American blood on their hands and they wouldn't want bad press.
(Actually, I think the President has a lot more heart than people want to give him credit for, and would just want to protect our people and get them out of there. I think people forget he has feelings, and is capable of caring.)
There are always the spoiled, the discontent and the free rider. I wonder how many who get a free ride, will really appreciate it or just think it's their due. There's no help for the spoiled and the discontent. (Perhaps leaving them behind would have been better, and made them appreciate all they have.)

Beirut hasn't exactly been a "garden of peace" in these past few decades. Any American going there ought to be aware of the dangers, and should not expect help from the U.S. government (unless they're government employees there on official business). If the U.S. warns that a country - or region - is unsafe for Americans, why go there? That would be like going to Iraq if you don't enjoy hot weather and gunfire. -RKO-

Nope, not at all. You'd think those same Americans surely would have seen the news, heard the radio or been warned quite some time ago that things weren't too cool there.Whatever happened to "self-accountability?"Those folks should have been on planes long before this emergency evac. Then to complain it wasn't done fast enough or that the services or the accommodations during the evac wasn't up to their standards,c'mom!

I feel sorry that they are caught in bad situation like I would for anyone who is stuck in any kind of rough patch but you are spot on. Beirut isn't exactly Switzerland and anyone going should have been aware of the risk. If they didn't check with the State Department beforehand I'm sorry but you should have. That warning is even printed on the inside of your passport.
Now despite all that I still think we should make every effort to get our citizens out.

Give me a break.

Does that mean that I shouldn't care when civilians like Nick Berg are kidnapped and beheaded on Iraq?

No. They knew it is been unlawful to employ illegals, and keeps to be unlawful, therefore bringing it upon themselves. "If we opt to furnish regulation-abiding businesses a honest probability to compete, that is necessary that we prosecute employers who income by using hiring unlawful extraterrestrial beings off the books," U.S. criminal professional for Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein stated in a prepared statement." we favor to furnish regulation abiding businesses a honest probability to compete, that is even extra necessary that we prosecute employers who income by using hiring unlawful extraterrestrial beings off the books, or on the books.
