Yahoo has been having problems with their chess engine lately. I suggest you try http://www.freechess.org it's 100% free and you don't see all the problems Yahoo has.

You can download a free interface at http://www.babaschess.net to improve your online chess experience. It allows you to play without opening your browser so you don't have that problem to deal with either.

screen names are case sensitivity, you need to double check your screen name you used when you set up that account
