That if people who are so against it would be singing a different tune if they themselves were in a condition in which stem cell research could have benefited them?

sure we'll pour money into war, thats no problem
but when it comes to something that could save lives and cure diseases...no way!!

Basically, as I understood it, the argument against stem cell research is that it is unethical based on the fact that it will cause a domino effect on unethical research as a whole. Where would it end? Who is to say that one type of research (denying embryos life in the name of science) is no worse than another (disecting a corpse that once belonged to someone whose beliefs were totally against it). I think we are all aware of the fact that valuable information could come from stem cell research, even life saving information. It is just unethical in the fact that an embryo that has the potential to become a living, breathing child should lose that potential in the name of research. Sure, someone who is dying is not going to care about the unethical behavior involved here. It is the same with people who look to Asia for organ donors when they have a hard time finding them in the U.S. These donors are usually prisoners who were executed over petty crimes such as tax evasion, not to mention the fact that they didn't intend to become organ donors after death. Do you think the person that gained a healthy heart cares that the reason their donor died was most likely only for the use of his/her organs? No, they really don't care. It doesn't haunt them, they just want to go on with their lives.

i hear you and i strongly agree. but i am also a realist and there are some on the band wagon that are not in it for altruistic reasons and i fear may pervert the good intentions for their own monetary and sick intentions. In addition, if we pursue this, where will it end? maybe the next argument will be that a brain dead person on a respirator can be used as a medical Guinea pig.... i am just saying. the bottom line is i would feel better if we could find another way.

I'm against embryonic stem cell research.

I'm for adult stem cell research.

I wish people would stop lumping the two together. Adult stem cells not only work better, but you don't have to kill anyone to get them!

You might not believe this, but I would never let myself be benefitted by the use of an innocent murdered babies corpse.
