In the wild , mice, rabbits may get away but in a cage , it is ssoooooo wrooooong. I think owning snakes of any kind should be outlawed. Besides how much personality can those horrible things have

And what the heck is good about the food chain, it you believe in that then you must also believe poor, crippled, blind individuals should be left alone, and the strong get to destroy the weak. Wake up the food chain is NOT a good thing, if there is such a thing as reincarnation I hope you come back as a poor crippled bunny

Tony I have heard before what you said, knucklehead isn't a terrible name, and i believe u r a sociopath, so I apologize if you thought knucklehead is a bad word, but i honestly believe you wouldn't be such a snake expert if you had time for human relationships, and for not having feeling for others (its called empathy) i think u r a sociopath, it's a diagnosis , not a insult

Well, it doesn't take a genious to figure out that snake people like to spend time with cold blooded predators... That's kind of the definition of snakes, after all. As far as personality, you'd be suprised. I've had snakes that were friendlier than some dogs I've known. Sure, they don't react the way some animals do, but you can't really judge personality without having been around them, and I can tell that you haven't spent much time around them. The fact is, there are many types of snakes that make great pets, and many that don't. The fact remains that snakes are carnivores, and they need to eat meat. If you keep one, you have to feed it meat, and if you don't keep one, it will live in the wild and still eat meat. It's completely natural. I'm not one to be argumentative about other peoples choices, but if you look at it logically, it's far more natural for a snake to eat meat than it is for a person to choose not to.

how can people who have cats and dogs be willing to open tins of pet food to feed it to them, don't they have any compassions?
in the wild all the cows, goats, rabbits ducks and whatever may get away but groun up in a food bowl, it's sooooo wroooooong!
hope you now will see your mistake in the way you look at this! we arent in the nature and when you want to feed your pet the last you need is 50 or even more percent of the food you offer will run away! by the way ever know what really is inside commercial pet food? beside all the waste one ingredient is made of all the animals we need to put down at the vet and in the shelters. their dead bodies go to the rendering plant get ground up in huge grinders then cooked the result of that will be added to regular pet food as animal byproducts. and the very best the chemicals they use to put the animals down do survive the whole process and still can be detected in the produced pet food, but is all a question of the dose it will have an effect to your pet or not. so if you really need to complain about something why not about this??? i do think is the much more ethical wrong to poision some ones beloved pet and make it an cannibal by this practise in opposite to feed some live animals to another animal for which it is natural diet. oh and be sure the very most of these feeders will suffer very less than all the animals slaughtered or euthanasied in the shelters by cardial injection!

OK I will keep this brief and try to make some logic out of this without sounding like a psycho of what ever you think of us reptile owners. First of all I feed my snakes what is required to keep them alive. If that is a mouse than I am sorry for the mouse but I have to make sure the animal under my care gets what it needs. Second of all The food chain stuff is all good but hey you have to kill something to eat. If you are not eating meat you are eating plants and you had to kill them to be able to put them on your plate. I understand that not everyone has the same opinions about reptiles as I do, but I love them and have had interest in them from an early age. If you can not or do not agree with the feeding methods of them that is your right but to call us psycho because we have found pleasure in being able own the pet of our choice is rather unfair. But hey your opinion is yours and that is why opinions are special because they are individual.

I own dozens of snakes and I kill off just as many rats to feed them every week. Do I enjoy it? No, but I know my snakes must eat. All of my snakes have personality and they all make excellent pets. They're incredible animals that have survived for a LOT longer than people, yet they've done so with no limbs and advanced hunting techniques. BTW, I do like rats and have one as a pet.
As far as feeding live or pre-killed, you do what is best for your snake and for you. It's not as clear as just saying "Only feed pre-killed". Most of my snakes eat frozen/thawed, but I have a few that will only eat live. If done properly, feeding live is just as good as feeding pre-killed. If you want to discuss this further with me, feel free to write me.
As far as not having a food chain, that's beyond ignorant. I imagine with that statement that you are probably a vegan. If you are, you must grow all of your food and take the time to pick out all the bugs that are surely infesting your organic food. If you buy bread, cereal, and produce from the store you are inadvertently responsible for a LOT of death. Do you know how many mice, rats, rabbits, foxes, squirrels, birds, etc. get killed by the thrasher machines that harvest grain? MILLIONS. So every time you bite into that soy burger think about the deaths that were sacrificed so that you could enjoy that meal.

OK...so feed them dead mice. Lots easier to kill 'em first THEN feed them to the snake. Besides, snakes eat mice. It's like, hey, food have feelings, too, so I'm gonna let you starve. Do you know how morally injustice that is? It's just how nature works, y'know? Kill or be killed, survival of the fittest, bla bla bla. And you may compare humans to animals, but that's MUCH different. Humans don't need to kill people to live...well, sometimes they do, but that's different. But they need to do that to live. And if you don't believe me, then starve YOURSELF for a week, you stupid enviormentalist! Oh, let's all become a vegatarian and restrict our bodies from obtaning the beneficial proteins and minerals that animals have in their body! It's, like, go yell at the maggots for eating dead human bodies. Yeah, that makes sense. You see, you're trying to protect animals 'n stuff by not eating them, or so you say, but if you depry an animal's food source from the wild, then the whole ecosystem will collapse. Snake runs out of food, eagle runs out of food, mice, rats and rabbits overpopulate because their are no snakes OR eagles to feast on them and famine and disease is spread through the humans and animals and millions of living things die, all because you stupid "concerned about the enviorement but too stupid to think out the consequences of foolishly altering it while trying to do the 'morally ethical' thing". So go ahead and be stupid.

in my opinion snakes are not good pets, especially not with small children around. i've heard so many stories about snakes getting out of their cages and biting and constricting their owners. and your right about the mice thing, i used to want a snake a few years ago but for all the wrong reasons. i wanted one so i could show off to my friends wut a dangerous and scary looking animal i had. but like you, i thought about how i would have to feed live mice to the snakes. it is rather cruel, so i shifted to wanting a different pet. i was watching a show on animal planet about constricting snakes and they were talking about these big huge pythons that people were purchasing for pets. the problem is people buy these snakes as babies and don't know very much about them, like for example how exactly big they get when they are fully grown. one guy owned a 13 ft. burmese python and he owned chinchillas as well. one day after he got through feeding his chinchillas he forgot to wash his hands. so then he went to give his snake some fresh water. well the snake couldn't really figure out if the guy was food or not, but unfortunatley, the snake smelled the chinchilla on the guy and constricted him and almost choked him to death. his wife had to bite the snake to get it off of him. this is why i think snakes are not good pets.

Snakes are going to eat live animals whether they are in cages or in the wild, so what is the difference if they are hunting their food or receiving their food? Beside, people eat meat. What about lobster or squid? People pick those while they're still alive at restaurants and then the chef cooks it and serves it to you.

Why do people keep any kind of pet? Dogs & cats are carnivores, would you deny them their existence? It is the nature of these creatures (including humans) to eat the foods they prefer. All creatures depend on food matter that is either living or was once alive, including you. Think about that before you condemn a creature for following it's nature.

Actually, my snake has a lot of personality. She loves people. And to be honest, I don't feel too bad feeding her little fish that are about 1/3 the size of my finger.
