I would also say John Stockton. That was my first thought before I saw your details.

Magic Johnson
Yes, Stockton was a great point guard with more TOTAL assists than everyone else. But on a per game basis, Magic is number one, look it up:
1. Magic Johnson 11.2 Assists per game
2. John Stockton 10.5 Assists per game
Magic has 5 rings, Stockton 0 rings. Magic is the best point guard of all time. Despite the fact that Magic was also a scorer, he created for everyone else at a higher rate than anyone else in history (even the great John Stockton). Therefore, even by your own objective standard, Magic is the best of all time.

Of course it's MAGIC, not stockton or nash. Magic did it all score, rebound, assist, steals, blocks, defense and SHOWTIME.
How can you argue with a 6'9 Point Guard who made his team better.
Stockton was great but he was also a liability on defense, yeah he got steals much like Iverson does now but steals are not the only part of defense and I KNOW Magic played way better OVERALL Defense that Stockton.
And Nash, he plays NO D. How could he be MVP and not play a lick of D??????

I'm gonna go with the "Big O" (Oscar Robertson)... he's one of the Best All Around & Most Complete players of all time... he averaged an unbelivable 25.7 PPG, 9.5 APG & 7.5 RPG throughout his career, and a triple double durin the 61-62 season which is an amazin accomplishment. then i would say John Stockton. and to list a couple more:
Isiah Thomas
Pete Maravich
Magic Johnson
Bob Cousy
John Stockton
Allen Iverson
Walt Frazier
Jerry West
Jason Kidd

You asked Pure point guard. I agree with you. Stockton all the way. But on my all time NBA team I'm Picking Magic at point. To me he could play every position, he was like Lebron to me, he could do a little bit of every ones job and he won 5 titles. I didn't look at him as a Pure point guard though. Stockton wins this one!

#32 Ervin "Magic" Johnson. He would've put up numbers Stockton couldn't have reached if it weren't for him having to retire early in his career. Plus Magic had 5 championship rings. He made Kareem, Coop, B Scott, Superman, Landsberger, Big Game James, A.C. Green, Chones, WIlkes, Holland, and a host of other players either better or greater than they already were.
