I had a boss, and an employee ,someone I liked very much and worked well with had called in due to his father falling gravely ill. The employee thought his dad was going to die and stated so on the phone to my boss. the feeling in the shop was tense for the day. Understandable, right? The employee returned to work and was chastised for getting everyone worked up, since his dad was back from hospital. I was baffled. he was sat down and spoken to about keeping his personal problems to himself.
2 weeks later his father died.My boss let him go a week later due to the fact that he was stirring up things in the shop.
I was amazed and blown away. what do you guys think?

we were tense in the shop because we all liked the guy whos father was ill it caused a sadness to fall over the shop since the other guy was well loved. so it was more of a sadness not a tense-ness

Yeah, that boss would be considered an A$$hole. How can everyone else in the shop be worked up by this mans father dying? I know that its very sad when you lose a loved one that is so close to you. And it is a personal problem. But he had to call in to let the boss know what was going on so he could get the day off. And naturally, when someone such as a father passes on, you have to let your company know for berevement.
I am blown away that someone so cold could do that to someone after losing their father. It's not like he had some drug problem and couldnt make it to work. It was a legitimate excuse to have the day off. But the thing that gets me is why would the shop feel so tensed about it? If I was a worker at the shop, I would feel sorry fo rthe guy and hope all is well, but I wouldnt let it affect my work. Thats weird there.

Yes, the boss is a jerk. It unfortunately happens. They (the boss) worries more about production than the well being of his employees.

This does not sound like the kind or place you should work at. This poor attitude must rub off on everybody. Think what it will be like when it is your turn to be treated this badly. I think your friend is lucky to be out of there.
