I think part of the problem is that America is very different from much of the rest of the world, and many Americans don't REALIZE how different it is. More religious, more wasteful of energy (perhaps), wealthier, etc. We are perceived as being arrogant, overly prideful and looking down on others. Rude! Not willing to enjoy the local customs when we are abroad. Expecting everyone to speak English.
They also dislike Bush's foreign policy generally.
I DO think America is the best country to live in - not perfect, but the best - but I don't go shouting about it to foreigners every chance I get. But many of the same obnoxious Americans we can't stand are the ones who travel abroad and act like jerks - that's all many people outside the US see.
They can't hate us all that much because millions are still trying to sneak in here illegally! :)

because we are ignorant and arrogant, we have very little to no respect for other cultures. We beleive areselves to be "special". We demand that everyone learn english for us, instead of us learning their languages
In effect, we do suck. We just never make an effort to respect other nationalities, and in result, they don't respect us.
Revision- Hows this
However, as many have said, it doesn't make us bad, we aren't the only ones who do this. However, we are the "greatest" nation of our time, we should provide an example. and I think we have room to grow. I'm not saying I hate america, or even that I'm ashamed of being here. I'm simply saying we have some work to do.
In the end someone is always going to hate you. It's just a matter of how many, and why.
They want to get in because they like their home country even less then ours. (if they hate ours at all)

define the word hard working. Have you ever been to Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea or Taiwan? Compare these people to the Americans. It not what you achieve, but what you did to achieve. Even the smallest tiniest achievement need hard working if it's hard to be done. You are just too lucky. But i dont think people should hate Americans. Honestly, not all.

Sadly, the U.S. government has been an agent of war and opression against in the world since after WW2. Throughout both Democratic and Republican administrations, U.S. foreign policy has been directed towards the ultimate goal of global dominance over the world. They claim to be fighting for the freedom of other people but are primarily concerned with economic, cultural, and political supremacy over all other countries.

This country is largely judged by its government. It is what America represents, abundance, greed, we take so many things for granted and our government is not favored in other places because they are bullies. They try to get everyone and everything to be just like them, think like them act like them, live like them. Our American government thinks they are better then anyone else and they look down on every other country unless they can get something from them.

They stereotype Americans for what America is doing to their country... Since Bush is voted by the people.. he represents us.. and therefor anything he does will reflect back on us.. the people that chose him.. even though some didn't vote for him, we are still stereotyped cause we live here...

Mabey because they are jeoulous or don't like how highly we think think of ourselves. it could be that we borrow money from them and never pay them back that would make me mad, we have the biggest national debt, so in my reasoning we don't have the best economy beut the worst, because those countries who have nothing are at zero rather than negative, but that is a bit off topic.
