Yes. Many of the states (but not all) have the first letter, of course, and then the last letter. Some states take the 2nd letter, such as AL for Alabama. BUT, then when you look at Alaska, it cannot be AL because of "bama," and they don't seem to use two vowels for any (except Iowa -- IA? which leaves Indiana with the IN, not IA), so Alaska is AK. On multiple states with the same first initial, they use (again often!) first and last: Maryland MD, Maine ME, etc. Then, on the other hand, MA is Massachusetts, MS Mississippi, MO Missouri, and MN Montana. Confusing? Try the Ns.........
