Start reading "Treasure" magazine.
It is a mag for metal detectorists.
Buy a metal detector and some books. It will tell you where there are actual legends of treasure - Many are true!
People really used to bury their goods and their stuff CAN be found.
I tried it - not for me. You need the patience of Job. You'll spend 99% percent of your time digging the dirt for mostly a few worthless old trinkets. Very few people even pay for their detectors with the finds they get.

There is no such thing. I've watched many pirate documentaries and the truth is that they never buried the treasure, they just distributed it amongst the other pirates and spent it all on items of comfort and drink. If you want to find treasure, you're best bet would be to start diving many miles off of the coast of Florida or in the Bahamas where so many ships crashed over the years.

Learn to speak pirate first. Overrrr-arrrrrrticulate yourrrrr rrrrrrs.
Dress up like one. Remember, an eye patch means you can see 50% less of yourself in a mirror.
Go to a bar. Something with a piratey name, like the Sea Wench, but not Its Raining Men. Your costume will fit in, though.
Get drunk and start a pirate jig. People will join you. really. Dance to "You're a Pirate" by Lazytown.
Get a parrot that repeats every last phrase you say--"last phrase you say--AWK!".
Get a ship with a jolly roger. No, its not a flag with a green 5 pointed leaf.
Buy a map of the seven seas. Preferably one with an X on it with a arrow pointing saying "treasure be here!"
Hire a band of fellow pirates by offering to share "yerrr trrreasurrr". Less real teeth, the more gold teeth, the better.
Now set sail...and don't get yourself keelhauled.

Go to Home Depot and buy a shovel and start walking around looking for an X on the ground. When you find it dig. Good luck.
