Because this site is all about instant gratification.
Because then they wouldn't see their name and avatar in print.
Because they would have to figure out how to spell something correctly to look it up.
Because it makes them feel momentarily smart.
I prefer to ask questions that people have to think about, or about their particular experiences. Those answers don't come readily from traditional reference sources.

Either because they don't know Wikipedia exists, or don't know how to use it, or perhaps because they want to be part of the Yahoo Answers community by asking a question here.

Most of us that are here are doing it to have fun. What's the use of asking and answering questions when just about everyone could just go to wikepedia and answer their own questions? That would take the fun out of everything.
