Well there used to be a land bridge between Siberia and Alaska. Mother Nature took it away! Maybe she had a reason. If there was a cost effective and time withstanding option then it should definately be built.
This would open up the world in many different ways.
However, you will still have the imigration problem etc and the weather trying to break the bridge.

yup, that's it, build a huge long bridge, and polute even more pristine areas. Only an american would see that as a good thing. Of course, then you'd have more immigrants getting into your country illegally.
