That's a good question. When leaving a sinking ship, the only alternative is the water, isn't it? They aren't smart enough to run for the lifeboats.

They go to three places.
1. To the bottom of the sea..after they give up swimming.
2. They float at the surface of the sea after they die.
3. They go to Heaven / Hell as per their Karma and seek Next Birth.
