Manchester United are in talks with Juventus about Patrick Viera. Sir Alex sees him as Keane's replacement however I don't think Viera will come even if Juventus accept an offer. To be honest -as a United fan - I hope he doesn't come.
They are also in negotiation with Spurs over Michael Carrick. A new bid was put in which Spurs have yet to agree to. Carrick is Sir Alex's favourite and he really wants him.
There are also talks going on with AC Milan over Rino Gattuso. To my knowledge, he wants out of AC and away from all the scandle in Italy. This is a move that probably will happen before the start of the season.
Diarra is still possible however he has stated his interest in Real Madrid. As far as I know Real don't need him so aren't looking to purchise the Malian. This is why he could come if we don't get Gattuso.

there are alot of rumors right now, but nothing has been decided yet. There looking at Vierra, Pirlo, Gattuso, Requelme, Ribery, Carrick, Hargreaves, Nedved, etc...... but they are supposably going to keep Ruud, and Ronaldo, which will probably change who they try and get.
