He's one of the most diverse actors in showbiz. His talents for absorbing a character (Pirates, Crybaby, Scissorhands, Gilbert Grape, Chocolate) is frikkin incredible.

he is a fantastic actor, I wonder if he is welsh, anywho he seems to bring some kind of depth to whatever he does, it's like each role he plays has a snippet of his own character. I like Edward Scissorhands the best, the scenes of suburbia circa 1960's and the way the Moms all had their hair in rollers and the Dad's would all roll into the driveways at 5 or 6. and the stark imagery of suburban sub-lots with immature or no trees and perfect lawns reminds me of my childhood. I remember all the Moms would be on the phone or gossiping and when the Dads got home, phones would be dropped, everyone scrambles to the kitchen and the whole family sat down to dinner and we said "grace". Wow how normal it seemed then but alas just a distant dream these days

I think he is an actor of great power and technique *when* he chooses scripts well. No one here seems to have seen "Benny and Joon" which I highly recommend! The man can do it all--mime, silent movie, method acting...to name but a few. I love the way he can draw you into the most unreal situations and make you suspend disbelief for two whole hours. Unfortunate that in his interviews he always sounds half asleep...I can't say I care for the Pirates thing but I'm sure he had a great laugh doing it--and why not!
And well--physically he's not hard on the eyes!

I'm not sure I have ever seen him act.
Except act drunk in Pirates.
Oh no, wait, 'Scissorhands' and 'Chocolate Factory' had to be stretch.
Wouldn't class him as a great actor though.
You always know it's him, even behind a mask.
Others can caricature him quite easily.
If you can forget it's Johnny Depp and believe in the character, that's acting.
I do like him though, great screen presence, and he more often than not makes the movie.

Yes he is a good actor, and his Scottish accent was reasonable in Finding Neverland, which is a rare thing in English let alone American actors. And he chooses films he likes rather than what he thinks will make money, and they are generally good except for that one with Faye Dunaway which bored the a r s e off me.

His worst movie must be Don Juan DeMarco reason Marlon Brando grew to become into in it and it nevertheless sucked. i've got considered pupil action pictures that have been edited greater perfect than this piece of crap. His renowned for me,nicely he did not have a great function however the carefree love activity in Chocolat grew to become right into a function packed with Wimsey and self discovery for the two the main significant character and Johnny's character.

I think he's a great actor who can play all types of roles like Willi Wonka and Captain Jack Sparrow. I don't think many actors could play those roles so naturally as he does
