Do you think human embryos should be used for stem cell research?? On one hand, they're HUMAN, on the other, these are embryos left over in in-vitro fertilisation clinics and will be destroyed anyway...

what are your views.... and was George Bush justified in vetoing the stem cell research bill??

These embryos are not capable of surviving outside of the womb, have no development of any major systems, like respiratory or nervous system, are completely non viable, and will never grow enough to become any kind of life form capable of surviving on it's own.An embryo is not a human being, it's like a chicken egg. It's not a chicken yet! And i don't know about you, but I like scrambled eggs.I fail to see how it is wrong to use these genetic materials to improve the quality of life for people.George W is an idiot.

Stem cell research appears to offer the greatest advance in medicine since antibiotics. The research may find not just cures or treatments for disease but may actually grow new organs to replace a failed organ. New insulin producing cells are already being put into human livers and have offered a cure for diabetes. This research must go on and will go on outside of the US.

The issue that scares me most about the reasearch is that there may become a market for human stem cells harvested by criminals or contractors, etc. This will have to be dealt with by perhaps the police worldwide but the opportunity is just too good to stop moving forward. There is additional reasearch going on into growing stem cells form tissue for use in medicine.

I'm in favor of stem cell research. I'm not sure it will have the pay-off everyone is fantasizing about, but it will definitely have a pay-off and a positive one.

I have a hard time with using embryos -- I'm one of those sanctity of human life types -- but frankly the good would outweigh the bad in this case. I do not accept Bush's veto. Of all the things to blow his first veto on, this one seems a little ill-advised.

Of course I am in favor of stem cell research.

Anyone who has ever lost a loved one to a fatal disease, like cancer, AIDS, ALS, Alzheimer's, or other horrible illnesses should back stem cell research 100%. This research has the potential in all of these areas. To me, a human is only a human when viable.

George W. Bush is an idiot who never looks past his funding base to answer moral questions. Why should we be taking our moral stance from someone who touches a female world leader inappropriately?

I'm glad I live in CA, which has funded stem cell research on the state level.

Stem cell research has been going on for a long time, and privately funded stem cell research has been productive and profitable.

But all (as in 100%) of anything productive came from the study of ADULT stem cells.

Embyonic stem cell research is legal, but unproductive. But if you ask a researcher if you should give them millions of dollars to study it, without demanding any actual results, they will likely say yes.

embryonic stem cellular analyze is a executed in vitro, fertilized eggs in a dish. maximum folk assume it has something to do with abortion or taking a workable embryo. I think it is wrong. there are perfectly good adult stem cells. you can also use the ones off the ambelico cord and the placenta. u can get stem cells from plenty of other places instead of destroying someones possible future child. George Bush's morals are in the right place.

Yes I am. I think it is much better that zygotes that would otherwise be put in the trash are used to help humanity. For IVF many more eggs are fertilized than are usually needed.

George Bush was following his religious beliefs rather than looking at all the options available. I personally think he should keep religion out of his decision and base them on the facts before him.

Yes, completely!

Research into cures for diseases is important. If they weren't used they'd only go to waste and be destroyed.
