Perhaps you're being too selective with your examples. It turns out that some super heroes wear their underpants on the inside, and some don't wear underpants at all. In a brilliantly designed study on The Nature of Underpants in Superheroes, Suze Orman found that underwear placement depended upon whether super heroes chose saving the day versus making a fashion statement. Ms. Orman's study concluded that the likelihood of day-saving varied inversely with the likelihood that underwear was worn at all.
