My husband and I are going to be moving to Mobile, Alabama or the surrounding area very soon. Does anyone have any advice as far as places to look for apartments, places to stay away from, places to see, things to do?

HI, WELCOME TO MOBILE...LOTS OF WATER ACTIVITIES, BOATING, SWIMMING, ETC. LOOK FOR APARTMENT ACROSS THE BAY IN DAPHNE AREA. ONLY 7 MILES FROM MOBILE CITY. DON'T GET APT IN DAUPHIN PARKWAY AREA OR MIDTOWN..ACROSS THE BAY OR OUT IN WEST MOBILE ARE BEST. DOWNTOWN DAUPHIN ST. IS GOOD FOR FRI AND SAT NIGHTLIFE..GOOD FOOD AND CLUBS IF YOU LIKE THAT..GREAT SEAFOOD EVERYWHERE.. PUBLIC SCHOOL ARE HORRIBLE..GO FOR PRIVATE IF YOU HAVE YOUNG ONES. BUT OVER-ALL I THINK YOU'LL LIKE IT HERE.

Mobile is a very fun town. Lots to do, a carefree attitude, and near to the coast. However, Mobile proper can be very cliquish, with old money holding rein. So, with this in mind, I'd recommend living across the bay in Daphne or Fairhope. The Eastern shore is a lot more accessible to newcomers and is a great place to live.

I used to live in Tuscaloosa, a bit of a ways away.

However, I'm pretty sure Mobile is close to Chilton County. Chilton County is the best place for peaches, I don't think I've ever had peaches that even come close to Chilton County peaches. As it is summer, it's the peak season for them. They're pretty famous down south.

Mobile's also close to Gulf Shores, FL. Most people like to vacation down there.

Hope that helps!
