well, if you can't pay for the service, they have no legal responsibility to give it to you, unless they are directly responsible for the heat wave. which isn't true. It actually comes from all the hot air spewing out of Al Gore. Interesting.

In NY, utility companies have a "Good Niebour" fund for these typs of problems. All a poor person has to do is prove that they can not pay within reason. People who have a conscience can pay an extra dollar in each bill that gets matched bu the utility and put into the fund.

But let me guess, that's just too "liberal" of an idea for you! Perhaps it's because it's a "liberal" idea that works that you might have a problem with, after all based on your questions and answers you would never support any "liberal" way of solving a problem.

No. According to great American tradition (the BEST darn tradition in the whole world), the question of "what can you do for me?" has to be asked.

Uncle Sam : Good evening there, Little old lady on a pension. What can you do for me?

Little Old Lady : Nothing Sir, I have no money and without power and Air-conditioning I fear i shall die in this awful heat...

Uncle Sam : Well that isn't my problem Miss, you should've thought about that before you invested all your savings in Enron stock.

Little Old Lady : But sir, I get by on $140 a week and cannot afford medication AND my power bills, what shall I do?

Uncle Sam : Don't bore me with the details there Ma'am, just be a good citizen and die quietly if you please, those of us in the "community" get uncomfortable when confronted with the results of our fleecing of society...

Little Old Lady : Sorry to bother you Uncle Sam...*croak*

GOD BLESS AMERICA, DA DA DAAA DAAAAAAA!!!

Of course, these poor people can't be expected to make sacrifices. What do you expect them to do, prioritize their expenses and stop spending money on frivilous crap? Do you want them to turn off their internet connection, or cable tv, or cancel their magazine subscriptions ? How dare you suggest they give up their beer, or cigarettes, or Doritos, or chocolate bars to pay for something like electricity? I can't believe what an evil hate-monger you are. People need electricity, nobody in the history of humanity has ever lived in hot weather without air conditioning. Of course those evil robber barrons of "big electricity" have to be forced to pay for these poor, innocent, victims.

Many churches will pay people's elec. bill if someone can't afford to pay. There are also community service agencies that do the same thing. The elec. co. would likely work out a payment plan for a person to keep from turning the elec. off if the person talked to them about it.

Companies of any sort should not be forced to provide service to anyone. It is a mutual agreement between buyer and seller. No more, no less.

No-they should shut off non-payers,then if a seperate body wants to help them pay its up to them. They shouldnt be forced to anything.

No. Electricity is not a right... it's a utility service.
Just like cable tv... if you can't afford it, you just have to do without. They did it for many years before and got along just fine.
