If you do not know the childrens name...call the parents in advance so you can memorize them. Bring a notebook with you. In advance write down all emergency numbers that you may need and then when you get there ask the parents for a cell phone or number you can reach them in the event you need them. Ask the parents if they are on a schedule and keep them on it. Think of some games that you can play with the children to keep them occupied. Keep the games calmer at nite in case you are there at bedtime so they are not excited and you can get them to bed easier. Ask the parents if you can offer them a snack, if so what kinds. Do the kids have any allergies that you should know about? Never allow any of your friends over or talk much on the phone as that takes your attention away from watching the children....and something could happen. If you are putting them to bed, do they have a favorite bedtime story tha tyou need to read them. If you have to give them a bath, do you know how to set the water to the correct temp by using the inside of your wrist? If you do not, ask your mother to show you. You will make a better impression on the parents if you keep everything neat and tidy, pick up all the toys, dishes etc. It may help you to have a long term babysitting job, plus get you referrals....sometimes you may even receive a tip. If you plan on watching tv while the kids are asleep, keep the volume down so you can hear the kids should they wake up. Always remember that you are there for one reason, to watch the kids........that is what you should be doing. Be patient with them, they may try to take advantage of you. Write down in your notebook anything that may have happened or anything that the parents need to know when they return home.

It depends on their age. Always have patience with them. It's very important they learn to put their trust in you. Remember, you will be a stranger to them. Take them the park to play, never take your eyes off them. Play games, kids love games. Read them stories with a lot of enthusiasm. Don't let walk all over you and believe me they will if they can get away with it. Don't ever use corporal punishment because that can land you in jail. Make sure you ask the parents what the house rules are, what are the children's likes and dislikes. Do they have a nap time. How much TV are they allowed to watch. It's all basic common sense. You'll do fine. Good luck and have fun.

I've been babysitting for about 6 years... just don't lose your temper and WATCH THEM VERY CAREFULLY.

I've made a few mistakes of turning around and not watching them for 2 seconds and trust me, something will happen.

If anything happens while the parents are gone make sure you tell them when they get back because if you don't, the kids will. And if the parents here about something from them rather than you they will suspect that you aren't being truthful...

Above all, just treat them like they're your brothers/sisters and don't curse around them or anything. Depending on the age of them you should know what to watch out for..

Hope I helped some!

No sweets, find something creative to do with them, keep them busy, andmake sure you keep your eyes on them at all times. Kids are very quick so don't let them leave your sight..........not even 4 a second. Try 2 keep them active, so they could get tired, so hopefully by 9-10 they could be going to bed. N E Way try to have fun and Good Luck.

Don't teach them to spell.

It depends how old the kids are. Keep them
entertained, on a schedule and let them know you are in charge. Know the emergency numbers and have a contact if something happens.

Kids smell fear on a babysitter and will take full advantage.

well, it's a baby, not a babby.... don't shake it.

On a serious note-- there are actually baby-sitting courses out there than teens can take to help them with their responsibilities.

Other than that--your common sense should guide you in the right direction.

NEVER turn your back to them!!! kids are quick. Play games with them, watch their favorite movies, have picnics. If there is a park near by you can take them there, but be sure to watch them REAL well & bring a first aide kit with you. Be nice to them but never let them walk all over you, they'll never take your authority seriously if you're too nice. Have TONS of patience!! & have fun with it :)

Good luck!!

just play with the kids, dont be the person who watches them play on the couch..actually do the activitys with them, and if theres more than one kid, try not to be too preoccupied with one of them, always keep an eye on the other(S). and dont be afraid to ask the parents ANY questions you have, they will respect you for asking and know that you care enough to ask.

Have lots of patience and make sure you have some fun.

Make yourself unique with the children, but follow the parents rules and guidelines.
