I think we will always have to work in some capacity - it's just the nature of our jobs will change. If you look at what typical jobs were 100 years ago and what they are today - they are very different.
I also think there will never be a time of complete world peace and no hunger n stuff because of basic human nature. There will always be wars and there will always be people who have more and people who have less.

I dont know, 50 years back they tought right now we'd have robots aiding us in our daily tasks and flying cars and super rocket ships and that right now we'd be talking with telepathy or something so frankly there's no way to really tell but wait and hope we're there when such things happen for real. Also wolrd peace will not happen until we get invaded by aliens and realise taht in fact all humans are part of the same human race and that survival is our primary goal.

actually technology is, believe or not, the problem, let me explain this in simple words.
The most advanced we get the more we improve life quality and the most we get to live first-world-style
So the problem is that, believe or not, when only a third of world population gets to live first-world-style earth resources will not be enough
So here comes the problem, as we get more and more advanced the more people will get better life quality and the governments in wich those people live will start to create wars (using another excuse of course) in order to keep life style at other countries below the first-world-style life.
get it?
sad uh?

We are far more likely to destroy most of the planet creating even more hunger and a fractured world community than we would be to resolve these problems.

they say technology advances EXPONENTIALLY, but i think machines doing our work is still a very long way off.
fyi, there is a scientist in UK (can't remember his name) who has inserted 'chips' into his wrists to make machines move just by the slightest movement of his fingers. he is planing next to surgically 'install' a chip into his brain that will run machines at mere thought. he gives machines 'brain' cells and sees what they can and can't figure out. its quite fascinating what is to come! a very exciting time! too bad things like terrorists, politics, and religion are ruining it.

personally we need to cut back on the technology before we got ourselves into something we cannot undo. it is not too late to go back to living like good people off the land. it would be better for the planet that way

No, since the begining of time people have faught, worked, and were classified. We will never get out of these routines, because we never have. history teaches us alot about the future. looking back, your question can never be.
