It just always looks faster in the other lane on highways...especially when you pass exit ramps!

I wouldn't do that if I were you, he just might get in the other lane, speed up, open your door and push you out!

Nagging him won't help. It would be better to demonstrate to him that most traffic should keep right, allowing faster vehicles to pass on the left.
Most people hang in the lane in which they feel most comfortable, even if it's not correct.

Whilst he probably should, he might not feel comfortable or relaxed with it. Personally, I get really annoyed at backseat driving, so I wouldn't with me! My advice would be to keep quiet, or maybe mention it very occasionally.

It's really rude to do that to a driver. He's driving, LET HIM DRIVE! Unless you have a bleeding wound or something and have to get to the hospital, just let it go.
