Not at all. Lawyers get paid for the time they spend working for their clients. Not all lawyers are efficient and seek the least expensive solutions though. As a consumer, it is always YOUR job to know enough about what you are buying to get the most for your money.
This is just as true if you're going to buy a car or house, pick out clothing or hire a repairman or doctor. In every profession, half are going to be above average and half below.
Also law encompasses so many specialities that a lot of lawyers are on salary and some work for agencies that allow them to represent the poor. Not all lawyers are scumsuckers. The majority are not.
Oh..and no..I'm not a lawyer...heck, I won't even date one...but that doesn't mean I have a total lack of respect for the profession.

Lawyers should have a written agreement with the client, when they are hired. This outlines the terms of their employment and what is owed depending on the outcome. Unfortunately, there are some bad apples that can spoil the whole bunch, but that is not limited to the law profession. If you are ever suspicious of your lawyer's practices you can hire a "lost litigation attorney" to look into a malpractice case against that attorney.

Nope, my dad's a lawyer and he doesn't do that. He works for the insurance company, so he's usually the bad guy.
