I asked an honest question to people of color that you just don't get the answer to often. I asked if they would prefer to just be called "black" or "african american".

I only had a few black people answer so far and all the white people are calling me stupid and all this other stuff.

Now, what is so stupid about that????? I really wanna know. I think it's a question that needs answering.

The same white people who act offended probably make racist remarks, so there.

I have some black friends (I'm white as the day is long)... and when I was pregnant with my youngest, my four-year-old kept telling me he wanted me to have 'a brown baby' because he thinks 'brown babies' are so pretty.

So this got me thinking, and I asked my black friends, "What do you guys prefer? What's the proper thing to teach my son?"

They all told me they don't have a preference, and they're sick of politically correct nonsense making it necessary for people like you and me to have to ask these types of questions.

So... don't worry about it. Just ignore the stupid people. It's all good. :)

I guess its cos we are taught not to look at someones colour. Its not stupid to ask because some ppl hate being called black. I, as far as my friend in the US go, they like being called africa americans whereas here in the UK its black. It all depends on where u are and who u are talking to. I get trouble because I am a half and half so in the summer i look indian and in the winter I look like a white person who has a good tan!! LOL!! Also, what about white ppl? I mean, ur not white ur sometimes pink, lightest brown and my friend is adamant she blue!! She is pale pale pale and she says that she looks blue!! So i dont see the point of getting offended. I think its the way society as made us so politically correct. Thats why young children who say ur not black ur chocolate are the best. The are honest and not derroagtory with it. Ppl just need to calm down, take some prozac!!

It is called the anger of the impotent!

You asked a honest question, but too many people have a feeling of being ineffectual and that their voice doesn't matter. When they get a chance to vent their fury they choose you because they perceive bias in your question.

The question I would ask is how do you know that the people that called you stupid were white? Just because their little pictures were? Was it their speech pattern? Why do you impose color on the answers? That is rather telling in itself.

On the previous question, in any public forum use "African American" as it is PC. If you are discussing race in an intimate setting use "black" as it is simply too cumbersome to use AA all of the time. We don't use "Caucasian" all of the time either. Just be sensitive to the place and time you are speaking in.

I'm white, and I assume that Black is acceptable. I dont think there is any reason to think that that is wrong. I have blacks and whites working in the shop, and I say the "black guy" or the "white guy" to a delivery person. Who cares? I don't want to offend anyone, but it only makes sense to me. I work in Detroit, by the way, and I'm definitly the minority here at work. The black guys probably call me "the white girl in the office" so what? As long as I'm not the "B--ch" in the office... :)

There are so many people on here that make inflammatory racial statements that intelligent people just flip when they she racially motivated questions. While I wish race had no bearing on life, I know that it does, and if I feel someone is asking a question to gain insight or understanding I will give them a genuine answer. I saw no ill intent it your question, so answered it, but i understand the responses others gave as well. People just get frustrated with issues of race because we, as a society, should be done with it.

Don't even sweat it. People are so darn rude...not many people even have the consideration to ask the proper title to give to an Afro-American, black, brown, *****, etc...I think it's very kind of you to question this.

If there were a lot more like you, this world could unite and be a much more pleasant place. Peace, love, and happiness to all mankind.

Love see no color...

Cause those white people are racists and they dont want to hear the truth about their racism. When they say youre stupid, thayre saying they really dont care, cause they dont think of blacks as humans. These are the very people who probably go on and on about the holocaust (VERY BAD) but when they are confronted with issues pertaining to slavery, and all the deaths and suffering the slaves had, they barely bat an eye, and brush it off as insignificant. If you say a negative thing about the jews, they call you an anti semite, but then they go running their mouths off about blacks as if its perfectly okay to do.

I cant STAND racists. -But I DO like PEOPLE of all color, size, age, religion, and gender. =)

I think that's a legit question. I'm white, and that question doesn't offend me at all. There's nothing stupid about asking opinions about how people would like to be referred to.

(I look white - but if you're going by bloodlines, I think "mutt" would be the best reference for me)

You are truly naive my dear. How old are you??

What I suggest is this, stop defining everyone by their color or category. Don't put them into handy little baskets. Everyone is an indidividual, so look beyond the color and find a way to describe the person.

Why are you so bent on any color,do you know you are a spirit being, and that this skin we have is just a bag of leather housing the greater part of you.
So loose the talk about black, white, yellow, etc.
Because it seems like (i may be wrong) your the one with the problem about race.
I pray for your clarity on this matter. (smile)
