Read the finanical page or something. The economy is BOOMING! Are you not out in the economy or something? Have you been living under a rock? Unemployment is lower now than it ever was during Clinton. How is that possible under a bad economy?

And raising the minimum wage is the worst thing that can be done for the poor. You have to think things through. If you force companies to pay much higher wages, they will pass that cost on to the customer. Who pays mostly minimum wage? Retail stores, fast food places, small grocery stores, convenience stores. Who visits these establishments? Poor people. Who doesn't? People with plenty of money. Raising minimum wage will force the cost of most everything a poor person does to go up.

The solution you need is to find ways to get people out of minimum wage jobs, especially people who are trying to raise children. Why are they working those jobs? Fix that problem rather than forcing more money down the tubes, the cost of which will be borne by the poor.

I just look at the facts did inflation go crazy in 1997 when the last raise happened? No... Are the economies of the 23 states that have increased their minimum wages since collapsed? No. Are most of the minimum wage earners teenagers? No. Is the big push against raising the minimum wage based on greed? YES.

I interview the creator of UniversalLivingWage.org a very smart man he even has the backing of Rep.Lamar Smith(R). Go to the website and learn something.

These people who claim that raising the minimum wage will inflate prices are FULL OF CRAP. They obviously know nothing about economics!

The minimum wage has not been raised since 1997, and yet inflation has still caused prices to rise. These alarmists are trying to back up a republican notion meant to delay raising the minimum wage.

Yes, the economy is doing well currently, but who is reaping the benefits? NPR (National Public Radio -- radio's version of PBS) did a report on this issue. Studies show that even thought the economy has grown, the average worker has not seen an increase in their pay. Why, you may ask...because companies are keeping the profits for themselves!

It's nice to know that in bad times companies lay off workers, cut benefits and retirement (that their employee invested their OWN MONEY into), but do not share the wealth in good times.

Oh and for all you die hard republicans, you're most likely getting screwed as well since the richest 5% of Americans own 95% of our country!

The economy by most every measure is doing great - including near record low unemployment.

Having said that, sure the minimum wage could do with being raised, but then again, how many jobs actually pay it? My 17 yo daughter has had job after job, and all of them paid 7.00 or more to a kid.

The economy is stronger than it was when Clinton was in office. We can raise minimum wage, but all that is going to do is drive up the cost of goods sold, so you choose which one you want, I say keep minimum wage low, because I don't work for it.

The market rate for most wages is above the minimum wage. The debate about the minimum wage is political. It's easier to do than educating people and teaching them new job skills and making them more productive members of society. It looks like something for nothing. The people it hurts are part-time workers like teen-agers and working poor who lose their jobs. If you want higher unemployment, increase the minimum wage.

Unfortunately yes...I have noticed. The only problem is, if minimum wage is raised, then all other wages will be raised, and then prices will go up as well. I believe that is called inflation, but I may be wrong. Economics was not one of my best classes.

The minimum wage is only $5.15/hr ( to our country's disgrace.) Raising it would not reduce the number of jobs or create inflation. The only way to see the minimum wage increased is to vote Democratic in 110 days!

Genius! Yeah good idea. Raise the minimum wage for grocery store clerks and fast-food restaurant workers. Then as these stores pay more for their employees, they will pass this expense on to the consumer. And who you may ask is the consumer of these establishments? Who spends a greater percentage of their money here? Those minimum wage workers!!! We could raise it and raise it and raise it until we're all paying $2,000 for a loaf of bread. Superb idea!
