I reckon 9v would do the job. Interesting idea... just warn the person who will be putting wet clothes onto the line!!

Why stop at just what's necessary? If you're going to electrocute them, then give em the biggest blast you can - that's half the fun!

Really though, check into the normal voltage for electrified fences that folks put around horse pastures and such - I would assume that this would be an accepted level of power that wouldn't be apt to harm other things that might come in contact with the clothesline.

im not sure thats the best way... ants have an incredibly well adapted exoskeleton capable of withstanding things like this... plus, then you couldn't touch the clothes line either....
better off Fogging the area, or spraying some ant killer on the line and letting it dry... ants wont come back again.
(if u are worried about toxicity, they have nontoxic ant killer at pet stores like Petco. ... still does the job!)

Follow suite with the football stadiums grease them poles. A little grease the ants get stuck in and they can get up.

Dont think it will work. You can something like soap on the poles where the lines are attached to keep them from being able to climb on it.

voltage doesn't kill anything, current does and it won't take much, probably 500 mA.

voltage does not kill... what kills is the current. V=I*R
