A lot of conservatives are business owners, so this is money out of their pockets. They are going to have to pay this higher minimum wage to their employees. Also, they get hurt just as much by the gas prices, it cuts into their overhead just like everyone elses. The bottom lines are shrinking so of course they are kicking and screaming.

Common sense.
If you raise the minimum wage then everything else will start going up in price. Also, employers will have to pay each employee more, therefore they will hire less; causing unemployment to rise.
Also, most people with a full-time job and a family make above minimum wage. The majority of people that make minimum wage are kids in high school who do not necessarily need to be making $10.00 per hour anyways.
Furthermore, that is something that should be regulated by the states. In Missouri where I live, minimum wage is just $5.15. Everyone makes more than that here unless you are a cart-pusher at Wal-Mart, in which case you earn that $5.15 per hour. Most high school kids even make over the minimum wage; when I finished high school I was working at a call center making $8.10 per hour.
realistic human: I'm a Conservative, the oil companies don't pay me. What gives?

Minimum wage laws hurt, not help, people. It's just yet another liberal 'feel-good' program, that does more harm than good.
1. The vast majority of economists believe the minimum wage law costs the economy thousands of jobs.
2. Teenagers, workers in training, college students, interns, and part-time workers all have their options and opportunities limited by the minimum wage.
3. A low-paying job remains an entry point for those with few marketable skills.
4. Abolishing the minimum wage will allow businesses to achieve greater efficiency and lower prices.
5. When you force American companies to pay a certain wage, you increase the likelihood that those companies will outsource jobs to foreign workers, where labor is much cheaper.
6. Non-profit charitable organizations are hurt by the minimum wage.
7. The minimum wage can drive some small companies out of business.
8. A minimum wage gives businesses an additional incentive to mechanize duties previously held by humans.

Conservatives are under the impression that raising the minimum wage will hurt the economy because employers' costs will rise, which will make the cost of goods higher, which is how inflation gets started. They are dead wrong. Raising the minimum wage increases the standard of living for the workers who make it, which takes less stress off of the system by allowing them to pay all of their bills on time and raising them out of welfare-level poverty.
The inflation rate argument is pure hot air. In places where the minimum wage is higher than the national average, the standard of living is better and the economy is humming along just fine thank you.
Conservatives are pro-business, which means they only see things from a bottom-line point of view and care nothing for people's quality of life.

I am conservative, Republicans are NOT. I am against the rise in gas prices, a fair and honest price is just under $1.00 per gallon.
Taking a realistic look, if the Mexican invasion were immediately stopped and deportation of illegal aliens as their status is discovered, wages in the USA would rise without any meddling by the US Congress. Americans will do the work, we do not need aliens.

They have the trickle down theory. Meaning if the rich get richer the benefits with trickle down to the rest of us poor slobs. They believe if minium wage goes up, this will put some business over the edge in profit making or force some to close, or leave the country hurting the economy. Good luck fto the person that has to get to that job. Survival of the fittest. But then ago what do we expect when we elected a Pres and VP whose families are in the oil businees. You can bet they do'nt pay retail.

Oh no, they're just against a raise in minimum wage for the poor little civilians. THey're perfectly fine giving THEMSELVES raises (as they recently did). Interestingly, Senator Russ Feingold, one of the dems NOT in favor of providing raises to congress, actually mails a check to the treasury dept every two weeks, cause he knows it isn't right to steal tax payer money.
Anyway, cons are against a raise because they are evil greedy bastards. If us lowly citizens can't afford gas, Too Bad, they say!

Why do you imagine John McCain has any skill over gasoline prices? He tried to get the Federal gasoline Tax briefly bumped off yet each and every individual raised hell about that. The minimum salary is purely that: the minimum. the only those who should be operating for that salary are extreme college youthful toddlers. human beings ought to objective to better themselves.

Because if you raise minimum wage, more people will lose jobs.. the cost of goods will go up, and the cost of living will go up.....
However, if you are on minumum wage.. you can get a job that pays more.....
Since when does the government get involved with how much people should make.. do you want the government to set your salary???
