I started pointe the week before I turned 20. You're definitely not too old and if you have good strength and good technique then you should be okay to start pointe.
For your first pair of shoes I suggest you get fitted professionally. Personally I like Freeds because they're amazing, but Bloch and Capezio make great beginner shoes.
Also definitely wear padding and tape your toes. This will help you with the pain and suckiness of pointe.
Good Luck

I haven't got a clue what pointe is and to be quite honest don't really care .What I would like to say is you never too old to start anything .If anything you will have a better respect for it because you are older .And you will be more disciplined .I say go for it and give it all you got.
I am 37 yrs. old and literally just picked up a guitar this week .And I'm going to learn how to play it if it kills me .Or do you think I'm too old?

not to late if you start and are consistent with class at least 4 classes a week with a quaified instructor. Ponite is an extention of classical and contemporary dance tech...if your tech is strong , pointe is the natural next step.

theres no ideal age to start, its all about if your body is ready, talk to your teacher, if she gives the ok, go for it, gaynor mindens are very good for beginers, but some teachers dont like them because you cant feel the floor, another good brand is bach, they are well priced as well. a point for when you start... start slow only like 10 mins a class the first week, then move up, if you hurt yourself, its incredibly hard to recover

ive been dancing for 9 years, id like to take it too, but my teacher would put me in pointe 1 with girls younger than me. (i haven't taken ballet since this past year) i think that if your teachers think it's ok then you should go for it.
i makes me mad that i didn't take ballet until just this past year!
good luck! i always makes me feel good to see a fellow dance.
