Most standard size bandanas are 22" by 22", which results in a 31" diagonal when folded into a triangle. This is large enough for most people's heads. In terms of a skull cap, a smaller head should have little problems tucking in the back of the triangle under the knot, but a larger head might have a bit of difficulty getting the reach unless the fold leaves a larger triangle on one side.

For smaller heads, it should be sufficient to simply tie the knot over the dangling corner. For a larger head, where there is little space for the corner to be tucked in, one technique that is useful is to tie the square knot around the corner, having the first turn placed straight on, then have the cinching turn occur after placing the corner over the first turn. It should stay in place better.

Another option would be to consider purchasing a larger size bandana. There are 27" x 27" bandanas available from on-line vendors. This is a good option in you would like longer tails.

Hope that helps.

Hahaha! I thought you said banana and I was going to have fun answering this question but I see it's just some fashion thing.

The diagonal of the bandana has to be long enough to fit around your head with enough left over to tie it. But don't worry, most bandanas are made big enough.

aren't all bandanas the same size? I'd guess 16 inches by 16 inches
