I know there ears arnt like ours and it can be a problem to take them in different elevations due to the altitude, so when is it ok?

When my little boy was 3 months old I went from NC to IN and it didn't hurt his ears or ne thing.

Altitudes will not effect your baby any more than it effects you. Just make sure ahead of time that baby doesn't have an ear infection, because that could make take off and landing quite a bit painful for little ears...
If you mean taking a baby to visit a high altitude (top of the mountain :) ) don't worry about it. Think of it this way. If it is a town in a high altitude that you are visiting, chances are, someone in that town, at some point in time, must have had a baby.....

Are you talking about flying altitudes (ie on an aircraft), or visiting areas at high altitude? It makes a difference.

I just took my 2 month old from New York to California. The trick is try to have them suck on a pacifire or a bottle during take off and landings. My baby slept through both plane rides
