Those Light-weight Sketchers that look a little like bike shoes are great. They come in a lot of versatile colors, including go-anywhere black, are very comfortable, and you won't look like somebody's mom in her white tennis shoes.
More Dressy: Go with a wedge that supports your arches and ankles.
More Casual: You can't beat Birkenstocks for comfort
My advice about flip flops is to leave them on the beach. In the city your feet get really dirty and gross when you wear flip flops, and you will get major blisters if you walk any great distance in them.

Get some Crocs. They are like rubber shoes. The ones with holes all over let the breeze flow through so you stay cool and they are so comfy you can stand all day.

Sketchers sandals are the best - light, comfy and stylish. Tommy Hilfiger makes very nice stylish comfy sandals. Crocs are comfy but doesnt look as nice - kinda big and clunky looking.

oh you must get flyflots. i had a pair arrive this morn and still wearing them. they are so comfey they mold into your foot. i got mine from the www.shoeshop.com. they have loads to choose from and only took a few days to arrive, they also let you know by e mail whats going on. or if you live near a pavers shoe shop they also do them. good luck. once you have a pair you wont wear anything else.
